Infant Feeding Schedule

For all of you moms (and dads) out there - here is a chart that helped provide me sanity when my kids were infants. Remember, its just a guide but I found it extremely helpful. I hope it can help you too!

Weeks                   Feedings             Ounces per feeding
Birth- 1 week          10-12/day                  2-3 ounces
1-4 week                 6-10/day                   4-5 ounces
5-12 week               5-8/day                     5-6 ounces
3-4 months               4-6/day                     6-7 ounces
5-12 months             3-4/day                     8 ounces

Between 4-6 months: Start rice cereal & baby food.
6 + months: Start table food (cut up small)

I also always played by the Rule of Three when it came to growth spurts. Meaning at 3, 6, & 9 weeks old - as well as 3, 6, & 9 months old, the baby is going through a growing stage where they may be fussier at times, hungrier than normal, and needed bigger diapers (this you figure out pretty quickly). But after my first child, I was told about the chart above and it really helped when those unexpected fussy times came into play. We upped the ounces in the bottle, got a larger nipple (as you should as baby grows), and got a bigger size diaper. All was well.

Of course, every baby is different so you always want to check with your peditrcian first. This chart is basic and something to keep in mind so you don't get frustrated. Seems like a simple tip, but it works!
